Hi all,
I know this is being asked over and over again. I have in fact found posts that answer some of my questions.
My planned trip is like this:
1) land in Moscow (from Canada). Register VISA with agency associated with WTR. Will they do this for the entire period I am in Russia, regardless of whether I visit other cities as well (at my own risk of course)?
2) after a day or so in Moscow (or however long it takes to register the VISA), take the train to St-Petersburg. Spend a week there. I saw that legally I should register my VISA there also, but since the agency in Moscow would hypothetically have registered it for the entire period, then I should be ok. And if anyone asks, I was only in St-Petersburg 2-3 days. HOWEVER...
3)...after a week in St-Petersburg, I plan to use my double-entry VISA to visit Tallinn (Estonia) for a few days, then re-enter Russia. Might I have any problems at this point, if I didn't register my VISA in St-Pet? Can I just say that I went from Moscow straight to Talinn, or perhaps that I only spent a few days in St-Pet?
4) After re-entering Russia, I plan to take the train back to Moscow, where I will spend another week before flying back home.
Does this make sense? Am I missing any formalities that I should do, given the itinerary described above, at any time between my arrival to and departure from Russia?
Also, I will book tickets ahead of time, so can I instead land in Moscow, take train within a day to St-Pet, register there (what agencies there are associated with WTR??), go to Talinn, go back to Moscow. But then I have to register in Moscow also, don't I? Or can I kind of just say the same thing, that I only spent a few days in Moscow, and most of the time in St-Pet and Talinn?
Thanks a lot guys. I'm probably over-complicating this, but we all know how much easier it is to travel when we already have this sort of thing sorted out.

When are you doing all this?
Next month I am trying out the double visa process as well. Flying to Moscow, spending 5 days in Russia and then going from there to Morocco and then back to Moscow for a few days.
I know you want to arrange things now and understand the process ahead of time but when I return I'll check in and let you know if I have any issues along my way. |

Hi froid,
I'm heading over in mid-June. Yeah, if you can let me know how it went, that'd be great!
Thanks!
And enjoy your trip |

I will definitely let you know if I run into anything unexpected.
After a few trips I am pretty immune to the paperwork bothering me now. This time though...I am not staying in one spot very long so I wonder about the registration rules because of that even. In Russia the longest stay in one spot will be 2 days in one hotel, and every other hotel within Russia will be just 1 night. Other than that I am on trains or planes. So I wonder how that will work out for me. |

| Just got my double entry visa back from Ottawa. At least the paperwork part was easy. Had an invite with 2 visits listed including the dates in and out and back again and sent it all with my application to Ottawa with a nice letter requesting a double entry visa. Just to emphasize that point in case they missed the 2 visits listed on the invite. Visa looks the same as single entry, just has a "2" instead of a 1. They don't even list the dates in the middle, just the end dates. |

Yes, compared to some horror stories my friends have experienced elsewhere, the Russia Federation Counsular Service in Ottawa is plain excellent! My son brought my application with required support docs, and a week later - voila!! There was my visa. In some countries it is nothing except close to impossible to get a visa for Russia by yourself - except with a "semi-scam" tourism office doing the "work" for you |
