"Russian president Vladimir Putin has left his 50-year-old wife and is set to marry a former gymnast half his age, according to media reports.

Moscow paper the Moskovski Korrespondent reports that Putin, 56, and Alina Kabaeva, 24, will marry in June after the former KGB spy steps down from his role as Russian president.

Putin is believed to have left wife Ludmilla, with whom he is rarely photographed, two months ago.

Kabaeva is a former rhythmic gymnast who competed at the Olympic Games at Sydney in 2000 and won a gold medal in the individual all-around at the 2004 Athens Games.

She has also worked as a model and actress before becoming a member of parliament.

British newspaper Daily Mail claims news of the pair's upcoming ceremony first appeared in a Moscow newspaper with claims that a party planner from St Petersburg was already organising the wedding reception for Putin and his reported bride-to-be.

The couple was also spotted kissing in a Moscow restaurant, according to reports.

Putin has taken credit for re-building Russia after post-communist disorder. He enjoys high approval ratings in his own country, despite many western observers often criticising his rule as undemocratic.

The Kremlin has made no comment on the reports of the supposedly impending marriage."

I am thinking about the movie especially made for the glory of Putin and his wife, it would be interesting to add this part of his life as an epilogue Laughing

Hmm...must be a mid-life crisis going on with him. This girl must be out for money only because Putin is not that attractive and he looks like a alley rat. When men cheat on their wives then a man's character goes in the toilet. A man is more respected when he stays with his wife. I don't get it, men marry their dream girl when they are younger, make their wife do all kinds of bullshit, his wife kisses his ass for years, darns his socks, cooks his food, has his children, takes car of him when he's sick then he disrespects her by cheating on her and divorcing her for someone else or a younger woman. I am sure his wife will not receive a settlement because Russia doesn't believe in taking care of women after a man has stabbed his wife in the back with another woman...It shows how some countries believe women mean nothing to men. No wonder Russia has a problem in keeping it's country populated, the men don't stay with a woman long enough to get her pregnant anymore...and what woman would want too...no wonder your women are leaving your Russia...

Putin's denying it. I liked the other Russia story on ninemsn yesterday - about the guy in Vologda who got stabbed while drunk and didn't notice there was a knife stuck in his back until his wife pointed it out the next morning.

Some men cheat on their wives because they have few other options.

Perhaps she does not:
...love him
...sleep with him
...manage a home, raise children, cook, whatever

I'm sure lots of folks could add dozens of items to the list above. Some women just come along for the free ride and do nothing to contribute to the home/house/children. Many (most?) do, but some do not.

I cannot say with certainty what the situation with Mr. Putin may be, but my point is that it takes two (and sometimes three!) to decide a marriage is not what one would have hoped it would be. It is not always the fault of the man.

Many man, JoJo, actually keep the wife in the picture because it would be cruel to put her on the street - even with a generous settlement. Perhaps the wife has no marketable skills and has no head for managing money.

I know of many couples in this very sad situation in several countries around the world. It happens. Who has a crystal ball and knows for sure that the person that might marry in the 20s will mature and be that same person 10, 20, 30 years later? It's hardly fair to expect either party to stay in a loveless relationship. But I'd bet you that there are loads more men out there who maintain a facade than women.

Goodbye guys....I will check the forum here and there for Visa changes until my trip to Russia...I have come to a conclusion that is all people discuss here now and there are too many fake post in the Visa forum...I have some emails from some of you...I will keep in touch...this forum is lost...womens opinions don't mean much here due to a few arrogant moderators...hope it goes back to what it used to be..
