Hi

I am looking at booking train tickets to travel from riga to Moscow. I am just interested to know what the safety is like on these trains and what is the best ticket to buy? can you get private cabins and how much would they roughly cost? Laughing

Have a look at www.ldz.lv - Latvian railways' site.
They do have 2-berth and 4-berth cabins on the train.

It is non-patriotic - but I do not like the present style of Moscow - in its absolute majority. It is too much about business, making big and bigger money, building high and higher, buying more and more expensive cars, riding with police escort to underline your status...
But - many people like the city.
The other problem - too many newcomers using the opportunity of the moment, hence - nobody knows what is around the corner. The old charming Moscow is gone ...
I wish I were wrong.

I was told that Russians from other parts of the country do not like people from Moscow because they find them egoistic and arrogant.

Buying a ticket to Moscow from Riga can be as simple as one-two-three. This can be booked very easily from the central railway station in Riga -- without online reservations at all. The only difficulty I had while purchasing a ticket from Riga to Moscow was the language barrier between the ticket agent and myself, because my Russian and Latvian skills weren't fluent enough.

Whether the ticket-booth agent is Russian or a native Latvian -- with or without English speaking skills, then it will be in your best interest to prepare yourself language-wise.

But anyway, the journey by train from Riga to Moscow was very peaceful, and the rail staff was very polite. And it was a comfortable train. Wink

Thanks again for the advice,

does anyone have any idea of how much roughly a return ticket would cost me from the train station?

I'm hoping to buy train tickets to Moscow when I'm in Riga in July. Is it likely that the train I want to book will be booked out and should I therefore pay over the odds to have tickets posted out from a ticket agency? If it's relevant, I'm planning to travel platzkart with three other people and buy the tickets two days before my planned departure from Riga.

Thanks.
