Hello!

I will travel by car to Magadan at the end of next year. I would like to travel a little bit further north. I understand that the famous 'road of bones' ends at Magadan.

Is this the end of the world or does anybody know about a road which takes me up to Anadyr?

I will travel by 4wd.

There is no continuous road connecting Anadyr with Magadan. Some Russian trucks did make it x country to Provideniye on a round-the-world trip a few years back but they had extensive support. Special visas are required to travel up north too. It will be difficult enough to get to Magadan from Yakutsk. You need to travel late late summer just before winter starts to set in because the rivers are lowest then. Not all rivers have functioning bridges! I am sure the Russians will try and repair the road in the future but right now most of their road budget goes on the federal road trans siberian highway. For a 4x4 I think a toyota highlux double cab would be appropriate as you need all the clearance you can get to ford rivers. Just get the video of the "long way round" with Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman to see the road of bones section. Watch them put their support vehicles on the back of huge russian trucks to get them across rivers.

Thanks for your quick reply! I will travel in September 2009, I thought this will be the best period, especially because I want to put my car on the boat further East. If anybody knows a good shipping company please let me know.

Hilux is the best, I use them when I am in Africa, only for covering the distance I probably take a different 4wd. The long way around, the book is on my shelve, excellent reference.

I have received some more tips and take the boat from Magadan. SO IF ANYBODY HAS TIPS FOR MY STAY IN MAGADAN AND CONTACTS FOR SHIPPING COMPANIES PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
