hi im just about ready to graduate from high school in the US and am planning on studying at a university in russia,
I was woundering if anyone knew if universities there are much difficult than here in the US? would a university like novosibirsk state univ. or a technical university better suite me if im a average B-C grade student? |

B-C? That explains your posts here over the last few years. You should have spent more time studying and less time goofing off on expat websites...
Have you looked at the "requirements" to get into the University of Novosibirsk?

General notes
NSU accepts international students on a contract basis.
Applicants are encouraged to seek financial aid from foundations and institutions in their home countries.
Foreign students study in classes with other students. Individual tutorials are possible for graduate students or students doing individual research (to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis).

Admission Regulations

TORFL only is required for admission to the following departments: the Humanities, Foreign Languages, Psychology, and Philosophy.
TORFL and entrance examinations in mathematics, physics and chemistry are required for admission to the departments of Natural Sciences (biology and chemistry), Economics (mathematics), Mechanics and Mathematics (mathematics), Physics (physics and mathematics).
At the other departments examination requirements are defined individually by Dean’s Office basing on the documents, submitted by an applicant. |

NSU accepts international students on a contract basis.
This means that any old moron can pay their money and get "admitted". Nothing wrong with that, I suppose, as that's pretty much the way it happens here in the States as well. But there is NO competitive admissions for a US student to a Russian university. It is pay as you go and you go directly back to the US when you can't pass go and pay the freight.
Can you speak Russian? Can you pass TORFL? At Level Two?
Elementary:
The successful completion of the Elementary level test confirms that candidate possess the minimal level of commucative skills, allowing to satisfy the minimal requirements in everyday communication.
Test of Russian as a foreign language. Basic level (TORFL-0):
The successful completion of the Basic level test confirms that candidate possess the beginning level of commucative skills, allowing to satisfy the minimal requirements in social and cultural communication.
Test of Russian as a foreign language. Level 1 (TORFL-1). First Certificate Level.
The successful completion of this level confirms that candidate possess the basic level of commucative skills, allowing to satisfy the requirements in social, cultural communication, educational, professional spheres. The First Certificate is an official document, which allows foreign citizens to enter the Russian University.
Test of Russian as a foreign language. Level 2 (TORFL-2).
The successful completion of TORFL-2 confirms that candidate possess rather high level in the all areas of communication, and allows to conduct a professional activity in Russian as an expert in the areas of humanities (excepting philology), engineering and science. This Certificate is needed for obtaining a bachelor`s and master`s degree (excepting degree in philology). |

well mike, it depends on where your interests lie. Check what courses they offer. NSU probably will offer a larger variety, so i'd say you might be better going there.
If you are doing something you have a passion for, you will do really well.
And if you are B-C student, that means you are doing ok. And in uni all you have to do is pass.
But if you just want to have a tertiary education i'd suggest something easy like Human resource management or something in arts....or maybe humanities related. |
