Russian petrol is much better than it used to be.
Take the Alfa, the E500 will bankrupt you before you get to the border Laughing

Yes, well there is that! The speed it can get through a 90 litre tankful is impressive.

But the Alfa has a ride that knocks your teeth out on Russian roads and there are Ferraris with better ground clearance, which makes it non-ideal in Moscow. It also has no spare wheel!!!!

Although of course the Alfa's FWD and traction control you can switch off are better than the Merc's RWD and non-killable traction control when it comes to winter, and I already have snow tyres (non-studded) for the Alfa.

So, neither is ideal.

We are a professional couple who have been retired for a few years and wish to tour Russia for 3-months before returning to England.

We traveled to the USA in 2004 and toured Alaska for 3-months. We bought a car in California and we brought our car to England. We registered the car in the USA, paid the corresponding taxes, car insurance and the car number plate was sent to the home address of our friend in California 15-days after. The whole procedure was relatively easy.

We wonder if you could give us some advice on how we could repeat the experience in Russia of buying a car in the USA. We assume that we will not have any problem to get a Visa to travel to Russia. My question is:

Can a foreigner buy a car in Russia by providing to the Russia car dealer the address of a hotel or a hostel? What steps should we take in order to gain ownership of the car + car number plate + car insurance + road taxes? Will the car dealer do all the paper work or do we need to do something extra. Do we need to provide an address to the Russian car dealer? Do we have to be a Russian resident? Will a tourist be exempt from providing a permanent address?

Can I provide the address of a Russia solicitor office (who will represent me during the buying process) making his/her addresses my legal address.

Any comment will be highly appreciated.

Regards,

B
