Hi.

My girlfriend and I are going to Tallinn for a week, and we thought it would be fun to go to St. Petersburg for the day while we're there. The trains run overnight, so we were planning to get a train from Tallinn on a Monday night, arrive in St. Petersburg Tuesday morning, get the train back Tuesday evening.

Obviously, we're not planning on booking a hotel, as we won't be staying there overnight, so I'm not really sure what to do about getting a visa.

I guess one option is just to stay overnight in St. Petersburg Smile, but is it possible to visit just for the day? What documents would we need? (it seems we can book our train tickets online in advance if that helps).

Oh - we're both UK citizens, and we're students in London, so making a trip to the consulate in person isn't a problem.

Thanks for your help Smile

You do need a visa. You'll also need a visa support letter, which you can obtain from this site: http://www.waytorussia.net/Travel/VisaSupport.html

Personally I like Euroline buses better than the trains, because they are new and modern.
Going to St Petes for day is like going to Disney World for a 1/2 hour, you will feel completely overwhelm with everything you want to see.
Only thing I can say is visit Petergof and you might be able to see the majority of it in a day. Unless you have your Rollerblades, Hermitage will be impossible.
