What is the best overnight train from Moscow to St Petersburg...I have heard it is the Red Arrow...others metioned the 04 Express or the Nikolaevsky. Anyone know. We will want to travel in first class. Please let me know.

Thanks.

Red arrow is definitely the best but that can be quite costy, $700-1000 and even more.

The "Red Arrow" is indeed a nice train, but there are many nice trains between Moscow and St. Petersburg. Generally in Russia a lower number means a nicer train. Any with numbers less than 10 will be very nice. Pick the one that suits your schedule.

I'm sure the Nikolaevsky is quite expensive too; but it's something that has to be experienced. They wear old-fashioned uniforms, and the whole train is in a classic theme. If this interests you; definitely take the Nikolavesky up to St. petes.
