i heard the mosquitos are a big problem in spring/eary-summer, especially outside the cities. you better plan your trip for late summer.

You can see http://waytorussia.net/Siberia/ and compare.

I personally liked Novosibirsk most of all, but Barnaul is a good place to go out too. Irkutsk didn't seem very interesting to me, but Baikal lake, which is just an hour drive away is great. Krasnoyarsk seems to be a very interesting city too, but it lacks nightlife.

What are you looking for? Everyone mentions Irkutsk and Ulan Bataar, and I would add Kazan'. Nizhny Novogorod is a must if you're not going through Kazan'. Yaroslavl and Vladimir are nice but a little close to Moscow. East of the Urals, big cities are few and far between, so you can visit pretty much all of them if you plan on sleeping and having a shower every night. Might as well go a few days without. You won't smell any different from the rest.
