I was told by some aquantances that within 24 hours of a deceleration to the end of Communism/Socialism that the old Lenin Ruble lost it value. People who money invested in savings pretty much lost all that they had.
I would compare this event to that of the stock market crash in the U.S. during the 1930's. I agree any major event can change the value of things. I was mainly interested in Russian currency and their economic woes after the fall of Communism.
From all my research I have learned that Putin was a great asset to the country. He has helped stimulate the economy and trade. Has worked to create jobs for his fellow countrymen.
Would you as Russian's compare parts of the U.S. to parts of Russia in terms of liberty, freedom, government, education, and social life? |

I'd say ruble's price become equal to its black market price. Frankly, black market price was fair in the terms of the real economy - freeing market just revealed its real price.

There is nothing simular between 1930's in the US and 90's in the USSR. AFAIK crisis of the 30's in the US was caused by overproduction. Crisis of the 90's in the former USSR was caused by the lack of production of the high-quality goods common people need. USSR had wartime-like economy and hence won the war but lost the peace.

I think if goverment would ignore needs of the small and medium business as they currently do, Russian Federation may share fate with its precessor.

Many people describe life in the US and EU as "boring". |

I am using a combined source of information. Two personal interviews, news reports from Moscow online, franchise international, and this site. This site, and thanks to everyone who responded to all my questions, will be a huge asset to my paper.

For St.-Petersburg, from what I know:
Salesperson in a supermarket, cafe waiter etc. - 15000-25000 rubles (devide by 25 to count in dollars)
Office worker - 15000-70000? (really depends on the speciality and position)
IT specialist - 30000-120000? (again really big difference depending on the experience etc.)
Moscow shows 1.5-2.5 multiplyer for most of that. |
