I have a couple questions regarding the tourist visa. I have traveled to Russia more than a few times, but never with a tourist visa and I'm a bit confused. d'oh! I am from the USA and will be taking the visa app., etc myself to the Russian consulate here in D.C.

Background:
I am planning to travel to SPb (to visit my boyfriend and go to a wedding). I leave September 29 - arriving in Russia Sept. 30 - and I will go back home October 11. I will basically only be in and around SPb - give or take a small suburb or two. I'll be staying the whole time with my boy and family.

The questions:

1. I have already paid and received the voucher/hotel registration from IntelService (through WTR). However, I listed on the online form that I'll be traveling from Sept. 27 -Oct. 26 since I wasn't sure of the exact dates I'd going yet. Is it OK that the dates on my invitation are different than my *actual* travel dates/air tickets (Sept. 29-Oct.11)? Do I need to have the Invitation dates changed or is it ok if these dates don't match up?

2. What dates shall I put on visa application (in reference to above dates in question) if I do not need to change the invitation date???

3. Has anyone had problems lately with IntelService's voucher/hotel confirmation? Are they *truly* reputable and registered with the MFA?

4. Insurance - medical? travel? both? Who do you recommend?

5. Should I be worried that I will be staying elsewhere (boyfriends flat) than what is listed on the invitation? What if they want to interview me?

Sorry for so many questions!!! I am just nervous and seeing how little time I have to get my visa, I cannot afford a denial!

Thanks so much everyone!
Great forum!

As long as your travel is within the time period on your invitation letter, you'll be fine. If it were me, I'd use the same dates on the invitation letter for your visa - it's nice to have the extra days on the backend - what if your plans change and you need to stay for an extra few days?

The consulate won't want to see your airplane tickets.

On the issue of insurance, many American's put down "self", "employer", or just leave that field blank. If you're young and relatively healthy, I wouldn't worry about it. There have been some threads here recently where folks purchased travel insurance for medical care overseas - in my opinion, a waste of money. But that's your call. Most of those medical policies do not cover medical evacuation - which could really set you back. I like www.medjet.com and have a yearly subscription, but, then again, I like vacations where it's more than possible I'll break something.

I'll let someone else speak to the mechanics of staying at your boyfriends flat vs. a hotel.

Enjoy!

I'm actually interested to hear about the mechanics of staying at a flat instead of a hotel, this parallels some of my questions I've been asking around. I hope someone can provide some information.

Also, on a side note, I'd be interested in hearing from Anyasm about the D.C. consulate. I'm in the same area and I'll be going to the same place for my application. So if you find something I should know about when dealing with them that would be amazing.
