Hello! I have read your postings here about Blacks, Indians, Asians, etc... in Russia and racism and other matters against them. But what about Latin people?? I'm mixed Latin race (Portuguese/Azores and Spanish). I am told I look rather "Meditteranean" so does that mean I will "stand out" in crowds?? My bf is from southern Russia and tells me I should not be worried about anything, but after reading through some things here, I have to admit I am a bit nervous.
Do I really have anything much to be worried about??
Thanx Smile

Actually the risk is that some Ruzist could take you for a Caucasian girl. Often black haired people from southern Europe can look like Georgian which is not a good thing in Russia. But I don't think you will have problems because :

- You are a girl
- you will be with your Russian boyfriend

I am myself from Spanish decent and look like Mediteranean and for this reason I decided not to go to Russia to visit a friend in Novosibirsk (a Russian friend living in France told me I look like Georgian very much Laughing ). So we agreed to choose Kiev for our meeting. Anyway my situation is not yours so don't worry, nothing wrong will happen.

Ah! Thanx for your reply..I see your point.
Um, perhaps I should have explained more of my alleged "Meditteranean" look. I have light brown hair and very fair skin. I dont have the classic dark hair and olive skin look (I couldnt get a nice tan like that even if my life depended on it) LOL!!! Very Happy So I guess to be a tiny bit safer...I should dye my hair with blonde streaks and start to appreciate my non-tannable skin!! LOL!!!

There is no racism in Russia. Forget about it. And don't read that political propaganda crap.

I have Russian ancestors and I have brown hair and brown eyes. I always thought light haired Russians were a minority.

Brown hair with tendency to lighter colors is the most spread. Black hair is more seldom than blond. If we are speaking about native Russians.

Unfortunately, there is racism in every country. It does take place in Russia too. But I think it is considerably less dangerous than foreighners imagine. It finds it manifestation mostly in attitude and in words than in actions. Fortunately enough.

There are more than 100 big ethnical groups in Russia. They are "Non-Russians" here, but "Russians" abroad Laughing A person with black hair and eyes is certainly non-Russian... Here in Russia. IMHO it is like this: an Irish is British for us, but by no means is he British in England.
