Hi

I am looking to visit Moscow for 5 days from UK, I am going to apply for a tourist Visa, and will be using the invitation service available on this site.

My first question is this, do i need to have either the hotels or flights booked before i apply for my Visa?

On the UK's russian embassy site it states that i need to send them my visa application, passport, tourist voucher, tourist confirmation, and a standard cover letter from my travel agency in the UK (see http://www.rusemblon.org/visa/Visa_info.htm). Well i will be buying my flights and hotel accomodation privately and am not going through an agency - will this be a problem? The tourist voucher they request, is this the invitation if so what is the tourist confirmation?

Sorry for all the questions, but I am so confused by what i am reading i could do with someone to clarify how this all works - thanks.

Dear Stustarz.

I know how u feel it is a bit confusing. I just waded through it myself and seem to be doing a similar thing to you. I got it all sorted, so here is my two penneth for you !

1) it aint as tricky as it seems Very Happy

2) I am renting a private apartment and booked my flights / insurance etc privately online. No agency at all.

I used the waytorussia visa support service which was escellent. For more info see my posting in reply to the thread under moscow/question to dimas.
It recounts the whole process i went through in detail.

The supplied papers back via email rapidly from the waytorussia partner agency include 1) the tourist voucher and 2) an official invite.
On arrivale you can go to this agancies ofice to get your visa registered, no problem. If you are at a hotel you might be able to register there !

as for a cover letter, of course i didnt use an agency so I wrote a brief letter myself as below:

Dear Sir / Madame

Please consider my application for a Tourist Visa to visit Moscow between the dates stated.

I enclose.

• Passport
• Passport photocopy
• Faxed copy of original tourist voucher
• Faxed copy of original tourist invitation
• Visa application and attached recent photograph
• Postal order for £30 sterling
• Self addressed envelope for return of documents and visa

Thankyou.

The visa came back no problem at all. I have also mailed a few questions to Ella at Intelservice (the agency waytorussia uses for the visa support) and she has been very helpful.
if you wish to mail me then do so (although i'll be away from 15th to 24th Sep)

best regards and good luck
Ian
