|
|
| I'm planning a trip to Moscow and Murmansk for next June. I haven't been able to find any direct flights from Moscow to Murmansk or Kirovsk. Back in 2004 we made direct flights to both from Moscow. Has the Oblast fallen on such hard times that it no longer warrants direct flights from Moscow, or am I simple looking too far ahead? Flights through St. Petersburg exist, but the layover is longer than the entire journey should otherwise take. |

| Thanks, I thought I had checked some dates in the near future but apparently not well enough. |

Aeroflot-Don (Moscow-Sheremetyevo)
Aeroflot-Nord (Archangelsk, Moscow-Sheremetyevo, Tromsø)
Karat (Moscow-Domodedovo)
Sky Express (Moscow-Vnukovo)
I don't know if the information is accurate. |

I don't know this to be a fact, but I've heard that Murmansk is a restricted city?
Nuclear submarines, ya know. |

| The submarines are a little further north than the city of Murmansk, in Polyarny, which is indeed closed. I've been to Murmansk twice without any complications. I know that tourists are taken to the North Pole from Murmansk on the nuclear powered ice breakers during the summer months when they are not otherwise needed. I wonder what measures if any are taken as these trips pass by Polyarny. |
