Hello... I will be visiting Russia soon and would like to know if anyone knows about how I could go about calling the US from Russia? I looked at the calling cards but not sure if they require a cell phone or how to go about using them. Can I use a regular phone or hotel phone with them?

You can use calling cards with the hotel phone, local calls are cheap or free (but I'd advise to clarify this). You can also use them with cellphones (you will probably want to get a local SIM).

I believe the best way is to use a smartphone or laptop with Skype or SIP. There's a lot of places you can get free wireless internet which makes the calls almost free.

thanks for the quick reply...

I would use skype but... I think I might have to go the calling card route because I have to call my house phone here in NY. Plus I'm not sure when I will have internet access while in Russia. I'm sure I could find a phone almost anywhere though.

Sure.
Calling cards are cheap and quite available. Where are you going?

I'd definitely say Skype. It'd only be a few cents a minute - or if you sign up for the $10/month package the calls will be free. Might even be the next cheapest package..
