Hi everyone,

I apologise if this has been asked before. New here.

Basically I'm a British national currently studying in Moscow until June and am wanting to do the Trans-Siberian straight after I finish. I'm just concerned about visas. Can I obtain visas for China and Mongolia whilst not actually being in my national country? Is it possible to do this in Russia without sending my passport off by courier? My main worry is being stopped by the militsia (even though I've been here 5 months and have had no trouble yet) and being checked for documents and my photocopies not being enough.

Thanks for advance for any help or information.

That's pretty much your only option. You may wish to investigate whether it is possible for you to apply for a second passport via mail in the UK and use that, but if I were you, I'd make copies and just send my passport off. This could technically cause you problems if you need to produce your passport in Russia while it is away from you... I guess I'd ask how badly do you want to go to China and Mongolia? You could also take the trans-siberian to Vladivostok...!
