| I think WTR has a taxi service which you can order. There is Uncle Pasha also. Or you can deal the package of thieves called Russian Taxi service at this Airport. Never take the first taxi, because they are biggest thief. I heard Oligraghs started off as taxi drivers, but decided to be less ruthless and be businessmen |

| You can take a bus to metro Planernaya, then reach to Kievskaya by metro, it s faster and more cheaply than you take taxi. |

| They have just started a commuter trains running every half an hour to the Savyalovsky terminal (with a metro station of the same name) costing 200 rbl - guaranteeing no traffic jams on the way (possibility to sit in a car for up to 3 hours) |

If you can, definitely take the train.
edited to add: unless you are arriving on the week-end. Then take the busgoing to the metro, or a taxi (book it instead of taking one waiting outside)
Check: http://www.aero-express.ru/en/index.php?page=sheremetievo-ras-eng

Note, though, the train from SVO has an irregular schedule - you can find yourself sitting for a few hours unless you time it just right. The train from DME has a more regular schedule.

Sheremetyevo is awful
I avoid it if possible and choose Domodedovo
Anyway, if i were you i would better take a taxi.
There's plenty of choice of taxis in Moscow yeloow pages and the price would be smth about 40 EUR if you make an order in advance by phone (awaiting time's not included, e.g. a taxi waited for me about an hour and charged me with about 15 more EUR), or maybe 70 EUR to the city center if you take a taxi right at the aiport.. Fair enough, though, in London you'd pay more for a cab |

| I must sound rude, but do you look at at year of message (original post including) which you reply to? You know, that four-digit number like 2008, 2009, 2010.. oh wait. |

It's a bit crazy, but I believe people coming on a forum looking for advice would use the search function to check if their question has been answered in the past, before posting their question. And that must be a fairly frequent question. But now you mention it, I realize they wouldn't have found "Sheremetevo" or "Sheremetyevo airport" in this thread using that search function. Now they would . |

You can't really win. When somebody asks a question that has been asked a million times before the corresponding number of eyebrows go up. Similarly if a new poster does a search and drags up an old thread they can invoke some ire.
The good things are, that the questions are being answered in real time, the caustic comments are quite funny and everyone is getting what they're looking for. |

I'm a bit confused by the site- what's this about checking my luggage on the train? and the method of buying tickets: when i hit the link it just goes to the bottom of the page- is it the phone #? can they be purchased in the airport? does the train run on weekends (and why do you suggest taking a bus instead on the weekends?) |

I'm just back from Sheremietevo. I still haven't decided which airport is the worst in the world, between this one and Pulkovo (St-Petersburg).
Anyway... on week-ends you wouldn't have traffic jams so you can safely take the bus without fear that it will take 2 hours. And the buses are just about 2 euros.
tickets can be bought there of course, but don't expect an English speaker or a nice person at the booth.
Concerning the schedule, if SVO is your entering point in Russia, count 30 minutes for the passport control. That's one reason why I loathe this airport, another one being the fact that you'll sometimes get connections between SVO1 and SVO2 which are 20 minutes apart minimum, with taxis trying to screw customers (They start anywhere from 1000 to 1500 RUR for the transfer!!!) and no shuttle system (private bus is 60 RUR).
I don't know about checking luggage on the train. Maybe there is a possibility to check in during your trip between Moscow and the airport. That would be great actually, a big time saver...but they need to work on other things before I stop hating that airport. And I doubt it works at all.
(Btw the main reason why LED is also one of the worst airport in the world is that there is a perfectly useless control at the entrance of the airport that can take 1 hour. And then you have the real control at the entrance of your gate...) |
