Hello I am in US and my girl friend is in Russia (she is Russian). We do lot of texting (sms) and talk on phone. Last month alone we sent like 1300 sms and talk daily on phone for close to 1 hour. Only problem is my phone bill increased a lot! I got $260 as my phone bill last month Crying or Very sad and $150 for my previous month!Crying or Very sad My average phone bill is like $45 before, but these days dude to sms it became so expensive. I am using AT&T 450 min plan. I added 1500 free message service. And AT&T charge for international sms and also for incoming sms!
If any one knows any other plan or service from other carriers like T-mobile, or sprint please let me know. Please share any ideas to reduce my phone bills. She uses Megafon phone in Russia, I am also trying to find free sms sending website to megafon cell phones in russia, but i couldnt find any still. I am using skype paid sms or sms from my cell phone. I also would like to know any cheap calling cards to Russia.

I have been using voip for about 12 months and it has cut the cost considerably. Prior to that I used phone cards or just called direct (expensive). Skype to Skype is another alternative if you both have broadband connections.

search for SIP phone solutions
many modern cell-phones can use this technology (there's a Java-based SIP-client. Also if your phone supports Wi-Fi it can be even more convenient)
Here's a good solution: http://www.callwithus.com/

hi again

what do you mean by a broadband connection?
e.g. my sister living in siberia doesn't have more than 512 kb/sec connection and we still use skype without any inconvinience even with turned on video.
we even tried that with the connection slower than 56 kb/sec lol and it worked lol
if your GF lives in Moscow it's hard to believe she expiriences any problem with slow connection as it's a normal thing here to have at least 1Mb/sec internet connection at home. Maybe she needs a little investigation in this area Smile

good luck

megafon.ru
Send free SMS from there, just choose the region where your girlfriend live.
And, what is the problem with skype? We all use it to communicate with people who live abroad and in other places in Russia.

Maybe try +8 in place of +7.

And in reference to cheap calls, check the callings cards linked through this website. Connection quality is usually really good and I think my rate is around 5 or 6 cents a minute. Not super cheap, but it should be much better than your phone rate. And I use Skype, email and SMS via her phone companies website.

Does she by chance use u-tel as a carrier? If so you can send SMS messages from their website to her.

There is a free skype. I use skype all the time to call someone in Poland. Does your friend have a contact name that has been added to your contact list? Example, Adam88. I never pay a bill because if you both have skype and list each others (nick name) in the contact list with a ligit number then you can talk free or click on the contact tab and use the contact find, type in his contact nick name, click on the down arrow, type in the country he or she is in and search. Most of the time skype will find that person, but they have to have a name and not just the number. Not sure, but try +4 then the 10 digits and see if that works. Use the free skype instead. No payments. The only time you pay is when you are calling someone who does not have skype.

See if that helps.

I tried by diferents forms. For Example:

The his mobile phone is 8927835558.

I tried:

+8927835558
+7927835558
+88927835558
+78927835558

I think that exists any code that I don´t know how.

What is wrong? I really don´t know how.

The bottom number should have worked if it is the correct number this person gave you.

If you have done all this already then disregard, if not, then I would try entering the number at the bottom of the skype menu in the long blue box, scroll down the flag box on the left of the blue box and check Russia. If the number is not in your contact list a icon will appear and then you add it. Skype will search a contact name even if they don't have a number. Thousands of nick calls or names on skype and it will search until it finds your friends name and hopefully the number or right number.

I think, you need to type exit figures on a trunk call.

Try to type - 007 + a city code + № phone

You can try Google Voice for free SMS. I am just not sure if it can send sms to Russia but it can send free SMS to some countries. Yahoo can also send free sms to some countries, you might want to check that one too.

For international phone card or VoIP you can try Onesuite.com, rate to Moscow is 3.5 cents and 6.5 cents to mobile or other parts of Russia.
