My question is reversed, but considering many people answering questions here will have experience in obtaining visas maybe someone can still help me.
My girlfriend wants to go to Argentina to visit me when I will be there for a few months. The idea is that she will stay with me in an appartment. Now i know there are two options, private and tourist invitation.
Because the private invitation is a bit of a hassle, I was thinking to use the simplest method, that of a hotel reservation. However, I don't want to stay in a hotel, so I had following idea:

1) make hotel reservation online with credit card
2) ask hotel to send booking confirmation to embassy as required
3) apply and (hopefully) receive visa
4) travel to Argentina
5) cancel hotel booking (perhaps pay one night fee because of late cancellation)
6) stay in Argentina without having to pay for hotel but still with valid visa

I've thought about this possibility and honestly I can't see a problem with it. Does anybody see any potential problems/risks why this would not work?
Thank you for your advice and help,

Michael

A friend of my husband's who is Russian said that citizens of Russia and Argentina no longer need visas to travel for up to 90 days. I couldn't believe this, but a google search revealed the same:
