Hi,

obviously she couldn't divorce legally without you knowing about it (guess what, there are laws in Russia too). But she probably bought a divorce certificate. Guess what pops up first if you search "divorce certificate": http://www.35090.ru/index09.php It's a website selling divorce certificate, university diplomas etc. Don't buy for 1000 pounds what she bought for 100. It has no legal value.
Here is the whole family code of laws: http://ozpp.ru/zknd/semn/
Divorce is ruled by article 25. Here is the google translation. It ain't good english but understandable:

Quote:

Section 25. Time of termination of marriage at its dissolution

1. A marriage is dissolved in the Civil Registry, shall cease as of the date of state registration of dissolution of marriage in the book of civil registration, as in a divorce in court - from the date on which the court decision into legal force.

2. Divorce in court is subject to state registration in the manner prescribed for state registration of civil status.

The court is obliged, within three days from the date of entry into force of a court decision for divorce to a statement from the court decision in the registry of civil status at the place of state registration of the marriage.

The couple have no right to enter into a new marriage to obtain a certificate of dissolution of marriage in a civil state of residence of any of them.

There was no court decision, so no divorce. It's quite naive of you to believe she can divorce just like that.
...How long did you live with this woman before marrying her? Did you get to know her family well... Ah well it's none of my problem...

Just a foreigner, living in St Petersburg.

Oh actually the price for a divorce certificate is 30000 roubles, almost 700 euro.

... so obviously if you're going to pay that price, pay it to some other crook, not to her. She has already paid so you can have it for less...

hm...think, she's one of those women who are known to take money from a foreign husband... russian's are of that reputation (regretfully). Don't think divorce is that expensive... Don't pay anything!!! you should consult some lawer - the 1st thing! good luck to you, buddy! Wink

is it true??? the divorce certificate costs $1000? ... i know that either of the pair can report the other missing, which is one way to get a divorce ... but is he/she obliged to get the certificate as well? i mean if any of the pair tried to seek a divorce, they're obliged to pay $1000?
