I am happy to update & pass on my PLEASANT experience - by using the WTR website.

Same here - in Sydney Australia, good experience. 3 of us travelling together, I got a GROUP Voucher & GROUP Invitation letter through WTR.

With the GROUP Invitation letter - WE ARE ALL named on the same 1, Invitation letter & 1 Voucher, as on WTR it said 3 or more is a group. We found that out, once I started to fill out the details for the Invitation. (& saved money - only paid the fee once instead of 3 times)

Next we filled out the application forms, added a photo copy of the same 1- Invitation Letter & 1- Voucher & attached it to each individual application, mailed them all off together to Canberra, waited 12 days (includ postal time) and got Passports & Visas back - in the same envelope. It was as easy & as straight forward as that.

I made sure I followed the guidelines to how to fill the application out to the 'T'... from WTR.

I was worried I was going to get it all wrong... but No!

No problems in AUSSIE by sending applications etc off to Canberra.

So yes the WTR system does work

My Aussie citizen son applied for his Visa in Dublin ... there they fill the application out ONLINE, pay the fee into a Bank, (THIS info all goes directly down the line to the Russia Consulate)

Then he just took in his passport plus the copy of the Inviatation & Voucher letter - the same one as we used, & had his name on it (I e-mailed it to him & he printed it off) Handed it in at the counter - staff said he could pick it up himself after 10 business days.

All ready on time for collection as promised - No problems at all - in Dublin, Ireland . Son said the staff were pleasant & helpful at the counter at the Consulate.

I was as confused, concerned and as worried as everybody else, after I started to read what has to be done to get a Visa for Russia.

So that's why I am happy to share my experience, hoping that it puts other AUSSIE'S minds at ease Very Happy

Sunshine,
Why Canberra? I would have thought Sydney applications would be handled by the consulate (unless it doesn't exist anymore Shocked ) up there. Speaking of that, the Canberra consulate has had a change of staff. The head is a young fella (as compared to the other bloke) and pretty switched on. Anecdotally, I met one of the former Sydney bods on a flight and he told me in 4 years there he only refused one Visa application because the guy was an insufferably rude pr**k.

Anyway, looks like you had good luck with the WTR people. Very important 'cause of being stuck at the a**e end of the planet!!

G'day Usualsuspect, (haha Very Happy don't you read FAQ's)

Thanks for your '2 bobs' worth! Always good to read others opinions!

I sent mine to Canberra - only because I read as follows on the WTR- Russian Visa FAQ's:

Q: Any comments about the consulate in the country where I will apply?

A: Australia - consulate in Sydney is hard to deal with, apply in Canberra.

... Simple as that, I took the advice of WTR that was good enough for me.

Yes Sydney Consulate DOES both still exist! The EMBASSY is in Canberra/with Consulate section attached - Sydney is a CONSULATE - but of course handles Visa's too!

It does not matter where in Australia you live - you can apply by mail to Canberra - and I would expect the same for Sydney by mail! Just if you wanted to take it in in person & collect it - then you would of course use Sydney if you lived there!

I had time on my side - so mail option was ok, but if you wanted it quickly - then you would go in person to your closest place!

I was thinking Sydney - would have been okay as well, but I did not want to take any chances - so played it safe on the advice I read Smile

Ok so still all good - I just want Aussies to know they can relax
> a little bit< about their applications !

AND by the way - Australia does not want "insufferably rude pr**ks" here as tourists, so I don't blame Russia not wanting them either Wink

Cheers
Sunshine
