I'm really interested in the reasons WHY Russia can't (or don't want) join E.U.

The EU requires that nations that join give up alot more than Putin or his likely successors would give up (control over economic policy etc.). This is assuming that Putin doesn't declare hiself president for life anyway.

Besides, the french and germans want to be the big boys in the EU. They would not invite a huge country in.

Actually, there is a lot out there that supports the view that Russia will eventually join the EU or needs to. Likewise, the EU needs Russia. However, it will take a while and I believe Russia will avoid for as long as possible, joining. I did read this online but the points were well made. Unfortunately, I am not sure if I saved the sites but I'm sure people who replied here would find it interesting. IIRC, most of it regarded Russia's location, demographics and how they would be isolated if they don't join. The next economic (and military) superpower will be China. In order to compete in the marketplace, they would be wise to consider some sort of alliance with European nations. The cultures, people etc. all are more akin and some sort of association especially economically would be of benefit. I am not asserting this, I'm just trying to recollect some of the points.

Oh come on Russians please join the E.U.Everybody's doing it.Poland has already joined and, also from among the former satellites, so have Estonia,Latvia, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia. And if Yushchenko wins the election,Ukraine will likely try for membership as well.Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia are already becoming members.

Just do it so I can visit Russia without a visa.

Russia will never join E.U. because of the geopolitical situation in the world.
Russia is the biggest country: Europe and Asia, huge borders... And narcotrafic to E.U. will be very intensive. This is the first reason - geographical reason.
Political reason: Russia treated as a potential enemy of the E.U. and of the U.S. Double standarts policy intended to hold Russia's influence on other countries. The antirussian front is being created in former U.S.S.R. countries: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine - recently. Moldavia and Asian countries are waiting. U.S. is building military bases around Russia for quick and comfortable military campaign, also the U.S. is building Anti-rocket shield to protect themselves from ballistic rockets.
Economic reason: Russian economy woun't resist E.U. system cause our country specialised in military export and export of minerals.
Social reason: russian society woun't resist prices in the E.U. cause taxes would be very high.

And the last reason: Russia itself don't want to join E.U. cause the idea of joining is nonsense.
It's impossible absolutely like grass can't turn to orange colour for example!..

Btw, joining E.U. is not good also for former soviet countries:
in Poland it's very unemployment level, higher then in Russia
In Chech Rep. majority of people quite poor cause prices and taxes are very high however salary is much lower then in Germany for example.

Poland has a 20% unemployment rate. Crying or Very sad But it was that way since the fall of communism and we just joined the European Union last year.

Strange thing-do you know if it is true that Poland has a higher standard of living and on average higher salaries than Russia? Imagine that.

Don't Russians consider themselves to be part of Europe and Western culture?
