Hello,

I have an urgent question about applying for a student visa. I will be studying at the Novosibirsk State Univ. and will receive an invitation from them, but I'm wondering if it is possible to apply for my visa to Russia from a Russian consulate in another country. I've tried asking about this in various places but can't get anything more definite than "probably". I had planned to stop in Prague, Czech Republic on my way to Russia, but then discovered that because of the two week New Year break, my invitation would not be ready before I had planned to leave. My contact at the university seemed to think that if my invitation was sent to the consulate in Prague, that I shouldn't have any trouble applying for my visa there. But for obvious reasons, I'm trying to confirm this before leaving. The Russian embassy here in the US was not very helpful and I haven't received a reply from the Russian embassy in Prague. I'm not going to base my plans on an answer received here, but I wondered if anyone had encountered this type of situation before? Thank you!
