|

I 'll be arriving at Paveletski from the airport about 8 or 9 am. I'll have two suit cases (my first travel with 2 suit cases).
What's the best way to go from Paveletski to Izmailovo hotels' complex (Partizanskaya-Izmailovosky metro station) with that much luggage?
Is it OK & easy to take the Metro with that much luggage? It will be a Monday morning and rush hour.
Are there shuttle services (where people share rides)?
Are there any lockers in the station where I can leave the luggage? I won't be able to check into my hotel till 3pm so I might as well do some my sightseeing until then and get familiar with the city early.
I try to avoid taxis (one of my idiosyncracies). I have travelled to many countries and have used the taxi only once to get to my hotel - first day in Tokyo, because there are no street signs and I couldn't find my way to the hotel (which was only 10 minutes walk from the railway station) and it was 9 pm and raining. |

If I remember right, being that you are going to Paveletski, that means you are flying into Domodedovo.
Personally, I wouldn't recommend bringing that much luggage on the Metro, especially during rush hour. You can do it during a non rush hour, but it's still going to be a little bit of a pain depending on how many trains you have to connect to (There's a lot of stairs between connecting trains).
You can store your luggage at Paveletski though. The storage area is on the lower level.
I don't think there are any shuttles, but I could be wrong. Someone else may have some better ideas about how to get to your hotel from the train station. |

| Two suit cases will be a bit of a pain on the metro, but it is doable. Be a little flexible and willing to wait for a train or two until you find one you can comfortably board. Trains come every 2-3 minutes. You will have to make one transfer, but it is not too hard to get to Partizanskaya. If you don't like taxis, I don't think there is a better option. I would go with the bags directly to the hotel, you might be able to check in early. If not, there are left luggage rooms in the Izmailovskiy complex where you can leave them while you sightsee. I have done this a couple of times myself, except that I always arrived at Sheremetyevo. |

My mistake. I was originally going to fly by Aeroflot which arrives at DME and that got stuck in my brain. Then I found a great promotional deal with Air France (with a stop over in Paris and still a lot cheaper than non-stop Aeroflot and with friendlier & 24/7 customer service!) which arrives at Sheremetyevo (SVO). Is there a direct rail connection between SVO and the City Centre?
I don't think I will use the Metro with the luggage I have - it is bad enough to go through the metros' ticket barriers with one suitcase!
So, my aversion to taxis aside, what's the best way to go from SVO airport to Izmailovo's hotel complex (Partizanskaya metro area - just to be sure about the location) - train+taxi or taxi all the way? If I have to take a taxi, so be it - but everyone has stated on this forum, taxi is the last resort in Moscow (for that matter Tokyo, Buenos Aires, London, Paris, New York...)!
As an aside, and just in case someone might find it helpful, if you are not in hurry, you can take a local bus from Buenos Aires airport to Downtown. It will take you 3 hours but you will start experiencing BAs from time zero of arrival. It goes through rich & poor neighborhoods, locals travelling to/from work.... I did this not by design but I happened to bump into it while looking around the airport. It was a Great experience and the cost was only $1 or so. And of course I had my obligatory suitcase on board! But it still didn't beat the experience of travelling by train from Rome to Naples on a weekend (I can't remember if it was 2nd or 3rd - it was a long time ago). That's a long story. |

Thanks camarks.
I am very flexible in my schedule provided I arrive few hours before dark as it is not easy to be flexible if one arrives at a new place at night! I am never in a hury even when I am not on vacation.
Don't the Russian airports have (paid) shuttle services like Airport Express in the US or other shared ride services? |

Is the train all the way from Sheremetievo to Savelovsky now? I see on various websites that one has to take a bus from Sheremetievo to Lobnya and then take the train to Savelovsky? Is this information out of date? |

You are americans very fun and (don`t offence) fool. At each airport there is a taxi stand. You feel sorry for the money?
Anyway I advise not to travel on the Moscow subway. The best way to call a taxi (you can find tel numbers in Net). Or you may try to get a hotel by metro, bus or jitney but I can`t promise that you'll get unharmed and stealed. |

No offense taken ΑΣΜεπΰνγ.
I am a traveller and not a tourist and as such I like to start exploring/experiencing the places I visit as soon as I get there. And what is a better way to do that than to walk, use metro, buses and trains! If I was tourist, I will have travel agency arrange a transfer to & from the airport, arrange guided tours of the city, take me to shops & restaurants and reccomend what I should eat etc.... that's not me and I don't think most of the people on this forum are not that kind of tourists!
Also, after all the cautions and warnings on this forum & elsewhere about dealing with the Taxi drivers, who wants to take a taxi especially with the language barrier?
The last time I took a taxi was in Panama City, Panama,a to the airport and I though I will not make it to the airport alive! The driver was a maniac - weaving in & out of traffic and driving as if he was in car race of some kind!
Ok. I have given up on the idea of taking metro from the train station to the hotel area.
How about taking the aeroexpress train from Sheremetievo to Savelovsky train station and then taking a taxi from there to Izmailovsky Park area - it's only 9km? Or is that not worth it and instead just take a taxi from the airport!?

Two suitcases is one too many. Learn to travel light.
To get to the Izmolova Hotel, take the Metro from Paveletskaya Metro station (brown circle line) two stops to Kurskaya Metro station. Exit the brown line at Kurskaya and transfer to the blue line north. All in one station, two different Metro lines.
Exit the blue line at Metro station Partisanskaya. When you go out the door the Izmolova Hotel will be right in front of you. Big place, can't miss it.

I am going to take a taxi from Savelovsky train station to Izmailovsky Park. Approximately, how much will be the taxi fare? It's about 10 km. |
