we are in irkutsk on our way to mongolia, and from there to chita to continue to khabarovsk-vanino, to look for the ferry to sakhalin
we have been driving landcruiser from sthlm/sweden to here, through baltic countries, belarus, ukraine, moldova, rumania, bulgaria, turkey, georgia, armenia, iran, turkmenistan, uzbekistan, tajikistan, kirgizstan, kazakstan, up to siberia.
is there somebody who have crossed from russia, sakhalin and on to japan with a vehicle?
it's very hard to find information of how to do this
how does it work with the ferry in vanino-kholmsk.
we are very thankful for any information.
thanx a lot |

There is daily ferry Vanino-Holmsk, sometimes more than one ferry a day. They depart when thay are full.
To book or buy tickets go to ул. Железнодорожная 1 in Vanino or call on (42137) 57-7-08. |

| I don't suppose you know anything about the ferry in the other direction - Kholmsk to Vanino? Does Vanino connect via train to the rest of the Trans-Siberian? I'm having a hard time finding info about this online. Thanks! |

Sakhalin is a "restricted" region, subject to special passport controls that don't apply in most of Russia. According to this website, "In order to enter, you have to seek a special authorization from the local migration authorities."
So when applying for your Russian Federation visa, make sure that you specify that you intend to travel in Sakhalin, and that all of the necessary paperwork is handled in advance.
I don't recommend trying to get the visa on your own: use the services of WTR or another highly experienced visa processing firm. |

To Anyone Listening:
I am trying to find out what airlines fly from Reykjavia, Iceland to Moscow, Russia.
If anyone know the names of any, please send me a reply.
I am writing from the USA and trying to plan a trip from USA to Reykjavia to Moscow. However, the airline I am taking from USA to Reykjavia does not fly to Moscow.
Thank you for listening.
Happy Easter to you. |

The same ferries Sakhalin-7, 8, 9 goes from Holmsk to Vanino.
There are two daily trains from Vanino to Habarovsk via Komsomolsk Na Amure. |
