On the website of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Toronto, it says on the list of things required to apply for a visa that I need:
Quote:
A letter from your company, travel agent or from yourself (if traveling individually) explaining who is traveling, where, when and for what purpose.

This is listed separately from visa support, about which it is said:
Quote:
VISA SUPPORT is provided by Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation or by Ministry’s local offices only. Please, check with us that your visa support has arrived PRIOR to sending documents.

Does this mean that I require a separate document, other than the one that I was sent from WTR's affiliate company when I ordered my business visa support, or is the information provided on said sheet of paper sufficient? I am thinking that it probably is, as the website states that visa support arrives at the consulate, and asks me to check there prior to sending documents.

So do I need to write up a basic itinerary and purpose of travel cover letter, or do I just send in the document sent to me by WTR when I purchased my visa support along with my passport, HIV test results, fees, postage, and application form? I would prefer an answer ASAP as my travel date approaches.

As far as I am aware, these are two separate requirements.

The first one is an official document prepared by the business/institution that is inviting you in Russia, a.k.a invitation letter or visa support.

The second one is a simply a typed letter prepared by yourself or the institution that invited you. This should state the purpose of your stay.

While most of the information included in this letter will be redundant, the purpose of this formality is to insure that your intentions match the type of visa you are requesting. So if you are asking for a tourist visa, don't write that you are going for business, and vice versa.

Best of luck,
Lili
