Oh, and you DEFINITELY should pick up a tea set in St. Petersburg - they can be pricey, but my goodness the quality is great and comparatively the sets are incredibly inexpensive. A wonderful souvenir, I just carried my box on the plane instead of packing it.

You mean Japanese tea sets ? Yeah, but actually you can buy them in the West for the same price. If not I don't know what you mean. Can you specify a shop?

I doubt you can buy the Lomonsov Porcelain and cheaper than the factory here. Visit the Lomonosov Imperial Porcelain Factory and on the 4th floor the Hermitage has its collection of fine porcelain as a Hermitage extension museum. Mikhail Lomonosov was Russia's Leonardo Di Vinci, founder of Moscow University, formalized Russian grammar, was a multifaceted scientist, mathamatician, linguist, poet, chemist, inventor etc...
Other good gifts related to St Petersburg would be the photo books of the city and museums/palaces. They are stunning and make great gifts.
Other items closely related to the city would be original art from one of the several artist co-ops, or fashion furs.
