|
|
Hi:
Our daughters Russian Passport expires in August of 2010. She is currently 15 and we will making our 2nd visit back to Russia this October since her adoption back in 2005. Currently she enters Russia, stays and leaves on her Russian Passport and leaves and enters the U.S. on her U.S. (the legal way to do it)---hopefully !!
We for sure plan on making future trips to Russia. So after 2010 for her to legally travel, we will have to renew her Russian Passport, or can she just renounce her Russian Citizenship and travel as a U.S. citizen ??

Your daughter can not renounce her Russian citizenship until she is at least 18 years old. From what I understand, it is much easier to renew the passport than renounce citizenship. We just renewed our ten-year-old daughter's passport, and it was very easy. I can't imagine our daughter giving up her citizenship and having to deal with visas for Russia in the future. Renewing the passport was at least as easy as getting a visa this time, but there was some indication that it will be a little more difficult when she is a teenager.
We adopted our daughter from the Murmansk region in April 2004. We were just there visiting here grandparents and brother this past June. |

The requirement to do everything in Russian is new. I assume that the process is the same for the other consulates. |

hello!
I just married a russian girl and she needs to change her passports (both). We were told she can only change her national passport in Russia, where she is registered. Is that correct? There's no possibility to change it at a russian consulate?
Then second question : if she goes to Russia, gives the documents to change her national passport, can someone else pick it up when it's ready? So that she doesn't need to stay for 1 month in Russia...
Thanks in advance! |
