hi

thinking about visiting moscow over the christmas period, and just concerned about the temperature, how cold does it actually get and how can you keep yourself warm?

are places/museums open during the christmas period especially christmas eve and boxing day? also what is the best method of transport from Sheremetyevo airport to moscow.

when do i need to start worrying about visa's? what is the quality and cost of food like eating out and general prices for museums etc

thanks!

1st of all, sorry for my english!
The temperature in winter for the last 3-4 years seldom folls below -10-15. But about 5 years ago it was -36-40 in Moscow. What's gonna happen this year -???
As you are going to be in Moscow (not out of it) it'll be enough just a common city clothes (jeans, a kind of warm jacket & some winter shoes, also you may have a thermal underware).
PS: it's sometimes raining in Moscow in winter last few years Shocked
About museums it's a very difficult question, because i rearly visit museums on holidays, at first & the second problem, that different sightseens have different shedule.
Prices are very different (from 100 rub up to 2000-5000 rub, usually about 300-500 rub).
Food: if you are going to cook meal yourself, it's better to ask citizen around your residence for a good, quality shop. If you prefer ready meal, remember this brands:
www.cafemumu.ru
www.grably.ru

15-300 rub per one person

About transport from Sheremetyevo: taxi, bus, train. If you want I can help you with it by car (for free, because I'm study english & I'm interested in speaking english)

I am so excited ... I'm leaving in 24 hours, on my way from the U.S. to Russia! I am visting friends on a homestay visa for two weeks. I have never even flown over the ocean before! My friend says it is pretty chilly now already! I am from south U.S. and it's pretty hot here! I had thought about going in December, but decided I would enjoy Fall-like weather more than full blown winter...
Wish me Luck!!! Wink

Hi. First sorry for my bad english.
The last three or four years the temperature in Moscow in december is about 0. You should take a raincoat or another outerwear wich allows you to stay dry if it will be rain. Than you need some boots which don't let water through.
The best way to get from Seremetiego in the end of December is the train. There are a lot of traffic jams in Moscow befor the New Year.
The main holiday in Russia is the New Year, that's why everything is working till Dec 31
