Hi:

What is a reasonable price to travel from SVO to the city center in Moscow. I am baffled by the price differences.

WaytoRussia.net only charges $30
gotorussia.net charges $70
http://www.gotoru.com/price_en.shtml#1 charges $30

What am I getting extra for paying $70 instead of $30.

Can I be picked up from the International Airport SVO-2 ?

Thanks

Guest,
Most cabbies start at 50-60 US. Pre-booked cars are in the 30 US range. I would suggest 70 US is over the top. I haven't and wouldn't pay that price.
Pre-booked is better. Because of my travel agent having links with Intourist, I always got a transfer for 30 US. The drivers (I used them twice) had a placard with my name on it and got me out of SVO 2 and to my hotel pronto in a modern Volga, which is a large (for russia), comfortable vehicle.
It's pot luck with a cabbie (and there are hordes of them at SVO 2). You may get a modern small Lada, or a ratty old Moskvitch with Micheal Schumacher at the wheel. You can try your hand at arguing the price, but you'd better speak OK russian.
You can also feel brave and take a bus or minibus to Rechnoi Vokzal, and hop on the Metro for a grand total of maybe 5-6 US, but I'd advice not trying this unless you arrive clear headed and be willing to try speaking/reading some russian.

Regards

There is a taxi booking desk at SVO-2 that charges a very fair price for a ride into downtown Moscow (it was $25 last time I used it, it could be up to $30 by now, I'm not sure).

Sure, taxi drivers will try and get you to pay more, but just go to the taxi booking desk if you can't talk a driver's shill down to $30 (the guys you encounter in the terminal aren't the actual drivers, usually, they are just shills that get fares and then pass them on to the actual drivers.

Quality does vary enormously in terms of car and driver and driving style. A hotel car is likely to be very much nicer in all three areas.
