Hi! Next year I will make a three day visit to Moscow, mostly to watch the military parade on May 9 and visit the Kremlin, the Lenin mausoleum and, perhaps, make some tours on Moscow.
I would like to know/visit everything related to military, aircraft/space technology and Soviet history, besides watching the military parade on VE day.
I have heard that Yellow Blue Bus is good place to stay. I will be arriving and also leaving through Sheremetvo airport. I will get the VISA through the invitation of WaytoRussia.net.
I wonder if it's very dificult to move from the airport to the hostel and vice-versa. I am also preparing myself to study some Russian before travelling.
With regard to Moscow or Russia, is there any "danger" or "threat" to tourists? Some guidebooks warn about that. How real or true is it?
Any tips or comments? |

It seems to me that the only way to see tha parad is only by TV or from the winsow of you room. If the price is not a problem choose the hotel on Tverskaya St and book it as early as possible.
a lot of military equipment is on Poklonnaya Gora.
If I remember more plases related to war I'll write.
If you will walk in the center I think it won't be very dangerous.

hi!
remember that tickets for the Parade are very difficult to get, and without ticket, you have absolutely no access to Red Square on May 9th!
At least one week before and one week after the Parade, Lenin's mausoleum is closed to visitors. During Parade time, you can even find Red Square closed...
getting from airport to city center is very easy, now you can use Aeroexpress trains : www.aeroexpress.ru |

Thank you all for the very helpful information. I will be arriving on May 7 and leaving on May 10.
I am very disappointed to know that I won't be able to visit the Lenin mausoleum and that I also run risk of not being able to be present at the military parade.
I also imagine that if tickets are hard to get then they must be very expensive. How could I get them if this is possible at all?
Thanks archon for the info on the museum.
An_net, which is the hotel's name? Is it located very near the red square? |

I always stay in the Izmailovo Gamma-Delta Hotel. It is very reasonably priced.
As for safety, pick-pocketing is a concern in some areas, but it's safe overall. You just need to use common sense, just as you do anywhere else. |

Just my five cents...
Cosmos hotel Moscow is also a nice and affordable one - although I am not sure what your budget is. I can say that my company's guests stayed there and were quite satisfied, plus it's not that far from the city center AND right across the All-Russia Exhibition Center that you might also like to visit.
As for the dangers - I think it's best to apply the common sense. Don't attend remote neighborhoods at night, don't be looking for trouble - and you'll be perfectly safe. |

| In case anyone is presently looking for a cheap place to stay, while I don't have personal experience, there is a well-regarded hostel called Godzillas (of all things!) A few months ago, I met a nice British lady on the street who was staying there. It is in a good neighborhood, not far from the center. |

there are many hotels to stay in Moscow Russia. so please tell me in what kind of hotel you want to stay in five star or four or any other. so please tell me that then i will tell you about some good hotels of there.and yes it is not difficult to move from airport to hotels in Russia.

With regard to safety - unlike many stories of scary 90s, Moscow in 2010 is perfectly safe place, at least it is not more dangerous then London or New York.
Unfortunately you can not enter Red Square on the 9th of May without invitation. It is not even a ticket that you can buy, you can only get invitation if you are working in some military connected structure, close to the government or have some personal connections, which will get you this invitation... or, perhaps, if you are a veteran of WWII.
You can PROBABLY see some military vehicles moving towards red Square on the Tverskaya street and for sure - on TV in Live.
Also there will be great amount of celebrations on the streets during this day, most traffic will be closed in the center of Moscow and there will be A LOT of people walking the streets. |

Some of the best hotels that provide a luxurious stay in Moscow are Hotel Cosmos, Metropol hotel, Courtyard Moscow City Center hotel and Renaissance Moscow Hotel.
Courtyard Moscow City Center hotel is a 4 star hotel providing all the necessary amenities that is expected from a posh hotel. The hotel offers spacious hotel rooms with high speed wireless internet. The thing that irked me while I stayed here is that the hotel has 2 restaurants, only one of which operates for lunch. This limits the menu with mostly local items which was not as per my taste. |
