|
|
Hi, I'll be travelling to Moscow this Christmas and I can't make up my mind about a hotel or another.
My budget is maximum 80$/ night and I found quite a few offers, but I could use some feedback from travellers who already stayed in a particular place. I'm particularly looking for friendly service and polite security, along with comfort and high degree of cleanness. Any recommendations?
Also, anybody has anything to say about following hotels: Ukraina, Danilovskaya, Belgrad?
Many thanks, Olivia |

| If you're looking for friendly service and polite security, along with comfort and high degree of cleanness, don't go to Russia unless you're prepared to pay top dollar (several hundred per night). I recently returned from Russia (Moscow/St. Petersburg) and stayed at the hostel in St. Pete which was excellent, and in Moscow stayed in the Hotel Rossiya for 1 night, and rented an apartment for a week. The hotel costs over $100 US per night for foreigners, and the service was extremely rude and accomodations poor. The apartment was nice for $40 per night, but be careful when returning late in the evening. |

Dear Olivia:
Guten Tag.
When I stay overnight in Moscow, I prefer the Izmailovo Alpha Hotel - rates from $45 depending on season and room-type.
The hotel's front door is a 30-second walk to the 'Izmailovsky Park' metro station. That's really good, especially in winter at -28C. The hotel is clean and all rooms have a private bathroom, a small TV and a mini fridge.
And ... there are several good restaurants within the hotel, as well as an internet cafe' in the main lobby, which I like.
From the Alpha Hotel to Red Square, it's only 6 metro stops. Maybe a 20 minute ride at the most.
Here's a direct link to the hotel:

You can make an online reservation without a credit card [which I also appreciate since I gave up on credit cards many years ago].
Hope that helps.
Regards,

For a cheap and clean hotel (though Russian style) try Hotel Universitetskaya south of the impressive Moscow State University campus:
http://www.studyrussian.com/MGU/hotel_universitetskaya.html
Doubles start at 30 USD per room. This is actually not much more than the hostels in Moscow. From Ploshad Indira Ghandi (in front of the hotel) you can take buses to Metro Universitetskaya (3 stops), and from there it's another 20 min to the city center. |

Hi Olivia,
I stayed at the Hotel Belgrad in Moscow this past March. The rooms are nothing to brag about (the bed is not much more than a cot thrown on a wooden bed frame) but I felt completely safe.
It has a nice lobby with a bar (where I fell in love with Russian Standard Vodka, drink it neat, it warms you up) and the free breakfast isn't bad. Also, it's in a decent neighborhood with the new and old Arbat streets nearby.
One thing to note, though I imagine as a women I imagine you won't run into this, is that several times the security guys asked us if we were interested in getting a women (prostitution appears pretty comman in Moscow hotels). But after the first night there and they realized we weren't interested they didn't ask again.
To sum up, if you're looking for a safe, reasonably priced place to crash after a long day/night exploring Moscow, then this place isn't to bad. But if you're gonna spend a lot of time in your room, it could get a bit depressing as they are pretty basic and a bit worn down..
Have a great trip

Hi,
Along with Kent, I've stayed there myself, in the Delta Block. It is as he describes it, and you are also a mere stones throw from the Izmailovski Park markets (weekends). Just follow the crowd!
