Hi,
A group of friends an I were considering travelling to lake baikal in early September and doing a little camping/kayaking on the lake. Is this plausible? I know it will be getting a bit colder by then, but can you still rent canoes/kayaks? Are there regulations about camping wild on the shores of the lake? Is it safe to do this independantly? Are there cheap campsites?
We are all experienced with the outdoors/kayaking, and have good quality sleeping bags. I am learning Russian but only know the basics. We dont really want to go on a guided tour as we are all cheapskates/students and dont exactly know timings yet.
Ta,
Helen |

What country are you from? Did you check price for fligt and train tickets ?

| I can't really comment on the campsite rates or camping but you can surely do kayaking on the lake in early September since the temperature at this time would be around 8 degrees Celsius. Carry some extra clothing to keep yourself warm. |

Jenny,
We are all from the UK. We have got Russian Visas and things sorted out so far, but we still arent sure about whether to camp or not. We are all interested in camping and kayaking at the lake if possible, but aren't sure on the practicalities of it all, and there is very little information about on the internet!
Do you know if it is possible to walk or kayak around the sourthern tip of the lake? |

Try this
baikal-eco dot ru/en/
I think that is no good idea to make camp where you want. It's better to make camp on tourist base - it's safe and you solve problems with information , medicine, food, water, toilet. |
