Hello fellow forum participants,

My name is Stan T. and I am currently a permanent resident of America living in San Diego CA. I am very interested in moving to St. Petersburg Russia and would appreciate any knowledgeable advise on how I should proceed.

I have a Russian zagrand passport so I will be just fine in regards to paperwork on going over there.

My major questions are: is it possible to find a job before I leave to go there(and if so what is the best way to search?) or is it better to look for work while I'm already there.

What is the best way to find a cheap/inexpensive apartment for rent or find a roommate(s) to split a place with in the city. Ideally I would like to have a place lined up before I leave(just trying to save some money by not having to stay at a hotel)

I would appreciate any good advise that can be given as I am really set on moving there, but just don't know how to put together such a difficult task.

Thanks everyone, Stan

Stan,

If you are still in need of assistance regarding this desire, feel free to contact me with your questions. I am an American, also from California, and have been living in Piter now for the past 3 years. I am always happy to do my best in advising others regarding this life changing move.

First and foremost, I highly suggest you begin networking with locals via vkontakte.ru. The Russian equivilant of Facebook. Create a profile and use the site to assist you in anything from meeting people to finding a flat/job.

You may also wish to join any and all other Russian expat forum groups you can find online. One specific suggestion would be Expat.ru. Such sites can be priceless in locating work and accomodation prior to your travel. Flatmates.ru is also useful for specific accomodation searches.

Good luck,

Thomas
