We can answer you better, if you will tell us more:
Where are you presently: country, and city?
Which countr(ies) issued your passport(s)?
Were you born in Russia, or any other part of the Soviet Union?
How long do want to stay in Russia?
Will your passport expire before 2012? |

Hi romdur thanks for the reply.
Right now I'm in Spain, in Madrid. I was born in Ireland and hold an Irish passport and it's valid past 2012.
I'll be staying about 10 days, although I'd love to stay longer!
Thank you for any help you can offer! |

In most cases, it is only possible to obtain a visa to the Russian Federation in the country that issued the passport, UNLESS you can document permanent residency (or other legal status greater than 90 days duration) in a third country. However, Russian consulates have different rules in different countries, and the requirements in Spain are not clear to me.
My advice:
1. Check out the consulate's website www dot spain dot mid dot ru
2. Be at the embassy on Monday morning, before 10 AM, and look for the place in the consular office where you can ask visa questions. Explain your situation, and ask them (A) whether you can get a Russian visa in Spain, and if so (B) whether you can get expedited visa processing.
If they answer "yes" to both questions, you can then start the your application process. Otherwise...
3. Get yourself to Dublin by the quickest available means, and get to work on the visa application process. By paying a premium in fees, you can get 3 days processing there. This means that AFTER your application and other papers are complete, your visa will be ready on the 3rd business day AFTER the day you submit the application: for example, if you give them the application on Wednesday, and no problems are encountered, your visa should be ready the following Monday.
You will be applying for a tourist visa. Once you have determined where you can apply, you must obtain a tourist invitation: the waytorussia website can help you to get it, and I believe this usually takes not more than one business day. For tourist invitations, a copy is normally acceptable, so you can receive your copy by FAX.
You will also need passport-type photos (2 are usually required), your passport of course, and the properly completed application form. For your exit date from Russia, I recommend your entry date plus 30 days (the maximum for a tourist visa).
Also, be prepared to pay the consular fees. For example, I saw on the Spanish embassy website that they don't accept cash.
I hope this information helps! Please come back, and post here what you learn from the consulate in Madrid. This may be valuable for other travelers. Good luck! |
