Hello,

My American friend is going to visit me in Russia and stay at my place but I can not provide him with a personal invitation. He is going to get one from a travel agency but now there is some confusion about filling the visa application. The question is what he writes in the fields:

1) Russian institution or organizatin to be visited - my name or the name of the travel company?

2) Name, address and phone number of a person or hotel you plan to stay with - my info or there will be something written in his invitation from the travel agency?

In connection to this, one more question - can they actually want to call the place outlined in his application and can it give us any problems?

I would be very thankful for your help! Thank you in advance!

I was working with a travel agencies earlier. I guess it is the invitation letter from the company. If the applicant is going as an Expatriate or to just visit the company, he requires to have an invitation letter forwarded by the concerned company or industry in Russia. or else, if he is going to do higher studies or some education visit, the concerned institution has to send the invitation letter to the applicant.

If your requirement will not fall under these two cases, you need to speak to the Embassy in US.

Something will be written in the invitation letter. When your friend fills the visa application, he should copy everything from there: name, address etc. This should not cause any problems.
Problems might appear though with the registration. Sometimes (not always), UFMS requires that the registration should be done by the organisation, which sent the invitation.
