|
|
| Hi, last week my landlord went to register me in Moscow main Post Office. After queuing for hours she was told that the Post Office now demands that the registration fee is to be paid to an account in Shearbank(?) before they could submit the registration. But neither Post Office or Bank knew account number or the appropriate fee, which now might be calculated from how many days you intent to stay in Russia(?) It was said that this new procedure was introduced from July this year. That all this created at lot of despair and confusion with those who tried to registrer you can imagine. Anyway after about 6 hrs my landlord finally managad to complete the registration. Anybody who know anything about this? |

Just a little --
The bank is Sberbank, a very big bank that evidently has some official relationship with the government.
I was in Russia a few days ago, speaking with an expatriate their (now a permanent resident) who told me about this new per-day fee. He told me how many rubles per day -- I don't recall the number, only that it seemed rather small.
The cost is light, but the inconvenience heavy! Under the new procedure, one must first go to a branch of Sberbank to pay this fee, and obtain a receipt. Then bring the receipt with you when registering. If I recall rightly, the main post office in Sankt Peterburg (on Pochtamskaya) has a Sberbank window, which would make this a little more convenient!
So far, I have always gotten my registration taken care of by Russian travel companies. If I had a landlord doing the registration for me, I would want to pay them well for the time and inconvenience. When I was in the main post office in SPB, I didn't see any big queues, so perhaps any folks who were registering there were getting it done reasonably quickly.
Hopefully, as people get more accustomed to the new procedure, Sberbank employees will be able to help customers by knowing the daily rate and how to fill the paperwork. The land of the Red Square certainly excels in the sphere of Red Tape.
IT WOULD BE NICE IF WHOEVER CAN EDIT THIS SITE WOULD UPDATE THE REGISTRATION PAGE TO REFLECT THIS NEW PROCEDURE! |

| As far as I understand very little editing (if any) gets done on the site anymore. Some of my car advice and UK visa advice is (way) out of date and WTR never updated it (even though I told them about it). The only thing that does get updated is Paranyushkin's Facebook "Wall" where someone (presumably Dimitri) dispenses visa related advice to people who can't be bothered to go to the forum. It's all very very sad. |

| is this procedure only for registration at a post office or in general? Do you have to pay this fee if you stay in a hotel or if you go to a police station? |

| The new procedure is only if you're staying with friends or renting an apartment. And if not so: then its done by the actual hotel anyway: Also thanx to all who replied on this issue. |

I found this further information on an expat forum:
Yet the registration process, which is the bane of foreign visitors, has been further complicated with the introduction of a fee in late January. A registration now costs 2 rubles for each day of the visit, with a ceiling at 200 rubles ($6.50). You must present a receipt from Sberbank showing that you have paid the fee. |

So this will cost me around RBL50 = GBP1.00 at those rates.
This is completely mad but not really very surprising.
I expect some enterprising post off clerk will have some "receipts" which they will sell you for a price to save you going to sberbank. |
