|
|
All,
My wife and I went to the Embassy and lo and behold, no more struggling through the Private Visa for me.
So, essentially we both roll up, she with her Passports (both) and IIRC her Propiska (or registration, can't remember), and me with my passport.
We fill out the usual visa form but put "Chastnaya" (which is usual for a Private Invitation) as the purpose. Her documents are photocopied and returned, mine is kept for processing, folding green handed over.
10 days later I have a swish new Visa Type in my passport and I'm home and hosed.
I can do a scan/photochop if anyone wants to see.
Regards

I've heard that there is a new quasi-spousal visa for foreigners married to Russians and applying for TRP (Temporary Residency Permit).
Perhaps you're an early winner?
Tell us more.

Expat,
Second attempt, with the URL "modified" .

So my wife being a Russian Citizen had to apply for ME to get a visa.
Internal passport and External (foreign) passport required. Marriage certificate also. Note, MARRIAGE, not de-facto, shacked-up or any other common law ruling. You have to be married. You can also apply on behalf of your kids.
Residency NOT required, Citizenship IS.
I just coughed up folding green as usual .

The advantages:-
1 Eliminates any involvement with OVIR by your relatives.
2 90 days (multiple) I think.
The disadvantages:-
1 Your spouse, you and the kids have to go to the visa processing centre.
2 You all have to travel to RUS and back again together AFAIK.
In London, it could work, but for the vast majority of UK mixed marriages, it is cheaper for the non russian party to apply by post through an agency for a tourist visa.
When I found out about this new visa my wife and son had already travelled to Moscow for the summer. And the tourist visa is still simpler to get.

Dittrich-2010,
Ahh yes, the rough with the smooth. We've got no kids, so I can see the downside now.
I only applied for single entry/exit for 30 days, however I can't see getting a multi / 3 months being a problem so long as you ask for it.

On a slightly different subject, I was wondering why you never tried to pick up Russian Citizenship? Forget the rules, I was "offered" this around 10 years ago through some "contacts" (ex party) for around USD5k. No need to go through the cumbersome process etc etc. But I never took them up on the offer because...
1 Tax Inspection
2 Propiska
3 Russian Driving License
4 Dealing with "situations" with authorities (customs, police, immigration)
5 In fact any kind of Official documentation at all.
I always got off being fined for stuff (particularly driving offenses) because I was a foreigner and the paperwork wasn't designed for this.
Even though I have been given a hard time in certain situations, I became convinced that if I was a local then I'd get treated alot worse.
So I would save the VISA fees (say £100) but then I'd lose so much more dealing with the Russian Bureacracy. So I came to the conclusion that my choice was the lesser evil. |
