Hello Moscow experts,

I'm planning to visit Moscow from 15 December to 13 January. I've done a lot of reading and checked many forums and although it seems there are definitely places to stay in Moscow, I was looking for some advice and suggestions.

First off, I my girlfriend is a Moscow resident and is able to communicate with anyone in person. This, of course, helps, but we still are new to locating places to stay in the city as she has only ever lived in dorms.

When we look for places to stay and contact apartment owners, is there anything we need to know.

Will I be likely to locate someone with an apartment that will be willing to rent it out in advance for the alloted time I am looking for?

Lastly, if it better to just arrive in Moscow, grab a hotel or hostel for a night and track down an apartment? Is this even a viable option?

Any other recommendations or help is appreciated. If for some reason you HAVE an apartment for rent for these times, or know someone who might, throw me an email address and we'll chat.

We aren't looking for anything amazing. Some place comfy and clean.

Moscow rooms and apartments will be expensive no matter how you slice it. Hotel rates are some of the world's highest. Forget hotels.
