Hi,

I'm planning to enter russia from mongolia and 30 day visa is long enough. however I need a double entry visa incase i can't get an Azerbaijan visa and will re-enter from Kazakhstan and transit through to Belarus or Ukraine. My leaving date is therefore more than 30 days after i enter Russia although I won't be there for more than 30 days.

The date i put down on the visa application and support letter I presume would be my final leaving date? Hypothetically say 25 days in russia starting 1st October, 30 days in Kazkhstan and 5 days maximum in russia after so 1st december?

Thanks

A tourist visa won't work for the travel you have outlined. The 30 day limit is from the date the visa becomes valid, to the date it expires (I've heard that sometimes they will approve 31 days).

Whether it is a single-entry or double-entry visa, you must make your final exit using the visa not later than 11:59 PM on the expiration date. So a tourist visa that became effective on 1 October would not be valid for entry OR exit after the end of October.

A double-entry 90-day business visa would suit your requirements.

Alternatively, you could use a tourist visa and make your post-Kazakhstan crossing by air, which would not require a Russian visa, even if you must change planes at a Russian airport. [Note: Without a visa, you can have up to 24 hours between your incoming and outgoing flights, and must remain in the international area of the airport during that time.]

For information, I understand that Belarus requires a transit visa when (for example) crossing through its territory by train.
