thank you... ill look into it more. its confusing because this very site mentions there is a way to avoid it but i can't find that schedule ----

""For example, if your destination is St. Petersburg, you should take a train to Warsaw, then take a train from Warsaw to Kaunas, then take a train from Kaunas to Vilnius, and then take a train from Vilnius to St. Petersburg, the total price will be around $75 one way. If you take a direct train Warsaw - St. Petersburg, you'll go through Belorussia, it'll cost around $85 one way and you'll need a transit visa (+$30 at least).""

thank you again everyone, hopefully i will figure this all out!

To cross Belarus, a Russian visa is not enough: you definitely need a transit visa from Belarus! The link from danbrew above shows the procedure and cost.

I would think that the Russian visa is valid to enter Belarus, check that with your local Belarussian consulate. The immigration card mentions Belarus (there is a federation of Russia and Belarus that is going nowhere but exists).

Hello! I'll be staying in Russia for a week, I plan to leave St. Petersburg to head to Berlin (figure I should take a train for a scenic adventure)--- I really really really want to avoid Belarus (getting a Russian Visa was tough enough, no more headaches!)--- what would you suggest? I've spent the last two weeks searching for routes, they say they exist but I can't figure it out. I know there is no direct connection to St. Pete to Berlin, lots of various stations but please tell me what are those stations/routre. What should I tell the train station? Also, should I buy a ticket in advanced or go to the station a few days before my depature? I'm going Dec 6 or 7th to Berlin so it's early December avoiding Christmas/New Year.

Thank you so much!

I've been searching on the site for train tickets for the route Ekaterineburg - Irkutsk. But I could not find any trains. My plan is to get on this train half of March.
