WHERE
WILL YOUR FLIGHT ARRIVE:
In Moscow, the major airport for international flights is
Sheremetyevo 2 airport , located a few kilometers to
the north of Moscow. It serves all major international airlines,
except Swiss Air and British Airways, which arrive in Domodedovo
airport.
Aeroflot Airlines domestic flights and charter flights usually
arrive in Sheremetyevo 1 airport, which is 5 km from
Sheremetyevo 2. There's a commercial shuttle service between
the two airports (costs 20R = $0.7), but it's quite hard to
get to, and not so reliable, so allow at least 4 hours between
the flights.
In your plane ticket Sheremetyevo will usually be marked as
SVO.
If you fly Swiss Air, British Airways or a domestic airline
(e.g. Sibir, EastLine, Domodedovo Airlines, Pulkovo Airlines,
Transaero, KrasAir etc., except Aeroflot), your flight will
arrive in Domodedovo airport, which is a few km to the
south of Moscow. It is a modern and a better airport, than Sheremetyevo,
and there's a train to the center of Moscow (Paveletskaya metro)
from this airport (every hour, from 10.00 to 20.00).

In St. Petersburg, the major airport for international flights
is Pulkovo 2 and the major airport for domestic flights is Pulkovo
1. They are located close to each other, to the south of St.
Petersburg. There's a bus to the city.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET TO THE CITY:
Of all the airports, it takes the longest to pass customs and
passport control in Sheremetyevo 2 in Moscow (where most of
the international flights arrive). Count from 30 minutes to
1.5 hour (during busy hours - from 13.00 to 20.00) for this
procedure.
It will take the same or less time in Pulkovo airport in St.
Petersburg, and it takes very short in Domodedovo airport (about
10-20 minutes).
All the airports are located about 1 hour drive to the city
centrum, depending on the traffic.
So, expect to be at your destination about 2 - 3 hours after
you landed.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RIDE THE TAXI IN CENTRUM:
During the daytime Moscow centrum is quite congested, so expect
to spend at least 30 minutes to get from one point to another
(in the centrum). If you want to go from suburbs to the centrum
(or vice versa), it'll take you at least 1 hour.
However, during the nighttime it may take as little as 5-10
minutes to drive from one part of the centrum to another, and
only 15-20 minutes to go to suburbs.
