Hotel Budapest Hotel

The Hotel Budapest is a strange entity. It appears to once have been quite a grand hotel, yet for some reason has failed to modernize properly.

While some efforts have been made, mainly in the area of upgrading the technological facilities, remnants of its Soviet past are still evident. The receptionists are efficient enough but are stern-faced. The rooms and floors have been renovated but a musty smell still clings to the building and the interior looks dated. The almost elegant design of the reception area could have been considered stunning about forty years ago. With that said, the hotel does not charge the extortionate prices you would expect given its stellar location less than ten minutes walk from Red Square. Single standards cost $160 while doubles are $230 and there is a 20% discount on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Continental breakfast is included and served in the rooms as there is no restaurant. There are three conference halls, a business center and two bars. Wi-Fi access is available and there is satellite TV, a safe, mini-bar and telephone in each room. All major credit cards are accepted. The hotel also offers visa registration. Interestingly, the hotel was opened and named in honor of the Hungarian capital by Soviet decree in 1956, the year of the Hungarian Revolt…
