Going Out in Ulan-Ude: Restaurants

The situation with entertainment in Ulan-Ude as we know it is quite bad. There are no good clubs or discoteques. Most of them are really crappy and attract a kind of crowd that wants to fight after the first glass of beer.

Going out in Ulan-Ude
Beware when going out :-)
So, it's much better to try out local restaurants. The people there are very friendly, food is nice and cheap. Buryatian national food is Zraza (juicy meat inside pastry) and green tea with milk. Also, locals like dried fruits and rice.
As Ulan-Ude is very close to China, you get a chance to try authentic Chinese food for really low prices (for Russia, at least).

Ulger Restaurant & Cafe: A restaurant with traditional Russian and Buryatian food. A nice terrace outside. You can eat a full meal there for about $3-$5 only. Try Buryatian national food: Zraza (meat in pasty), and green tea with milk. Open: 11.00 to 22.00.
Address: Lenina St., 46 (it is the main street of the city, next to the Lenin's head, near Baikal hotel). Tel.: 21-80-66

Zolotoy Drakon. The best chinese restaurant in Ulan-Ude. You can have a full dinner, including drinks and desserts for $7.
Address: Kirova str., 8 . Tel.: 21-21-09

Other Restaurants: To be sincere, we didn't find any other good places to eat in the city, but you can always stick to the "safe option" - restaurants in hotels. The food there may be overpriced, but will always be fair quality.
