Olkhon island is without a doubt the most amazing place at Baikal lake. It's quite a large island located in the middle of the lake, about 8 hours drive from Irkutsk. Kilometers and kilometers of steppe fields, sandy beaches, and the stunning landscapes abound. The island got much more touristic in the recent years, however, you can still find a spot to camp right on the beach or stay in one of the comfortable yurts or bed & breakfast all along the shore (especially the western side of it). If you've been to Cabo Verde Maio island – it's something like this. An amazing spot on the brink of becoming very touristic but still enjoying its remote location.
